Hey, future camogie star! If you’re a woman who loves a fast, fierce game, camogie’s calling your name. It’s like hurling’s sister—played with a stick (hurley) and a small ball (sliotar), you zip across a field, aiming for points over the bar or goals in the net. Think field hockey or lacrosse with an Irish twist: quick, physical, and a total thrill. If you’ve got field hockey or lacrosse experience, you’ll fit right in, but newbies are welcome too!
The St. Louis Gaelic Athletic Club is your spot to jump in. Founded in 2002 by Paul C. Rohde, Dan Lapke, and Pat O’Connor from the Milwaukee Hurling Club, it started small in Tower Grove Park. Now, with over 150 members, it’s a hub for Gaelic football, hurling, and camogie. Oh, and get this—we’re the 2024 Junior A Camogie National Champions, bringing home the Karen McCormack Ryan Cup from San Francisco! That’s some serious bragging rights.
Joining’s a win all around. Fitness-wise, camogie’s a full-body workout—sprinting, swinging, and dodging build strength, speed, and stamina. You’re also keeping Irish culture alive, diving into traditions that go back centuries while bonding over games and maybe a post-match drink. The camaraderie? Unbeatable. Our team’s a tight-knit crew where you’ll make friends for life.
Our players? Total variety—nurses, teachers, engineers, artists, you name it. All ages and all professions! We are welcoming vibe where everyone’s got a place. Practices are at Forest Park, gear’s provided, and we’re recruiting now for 2025. Come try it with the national champs—you might just fall in love with camogie! Sláinte!
