Women’s Teams
About the women’s teams
Women are welcome and encouraged to play with the men in the co-ed hurling and Gaelic football leagues, and many of our ladies take advantage of this opportunity. However, in order to offer more women a chance to learn and excel at Ireland’s Gaelic games, we also offer women-only competitions throughout the year.
In addition to the women-only matches, which run in conjunction spring and fall co-ed leagues, we also offer several opportunities to compete against other cities in tournaments across the country. Our goal is to continue growing the women’s teams to develop both an active league within St Louis and a strong presence in travel championship matches.
Our camogie (women’s hurling) and ladies Gaelic football teams are a fantastic opporutnity for women to learn a new sport and have a great time while doing it! We have players of all ages and different athletic backgrounds. Whether you have experience or you’re checking these sports out for the first time, we welcome anyone to give it a try!
Current season
We are currently recruiting for camogie and are thrilled to introduce a two team, women-only league for the 2012 spring/summer season!
The first camogie practice will be held on Feb. 26 at 11 am at Tilles Park (Hampton Ave and Marquette). A second Sunday practice will be held on March 4th. Practices will then switch to Tuesday evenings at 5:15pm starting March 13th.
Players will need a helmet with facemask (a hockey helmet is fine) to practice – we will have a limited supply of club helmets and hurleys (sticks) for new players. Hurleys will also be available for purchase at practice. Soccer cleats and shin guards are recommended.
Games will coincide with the hurling season and will be played every other Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent’s Park (March 31, April 14, 28; May 19; June 9, 23).
Dues for women who play only camogie will be $35; dues for women who play in both the hurling and camogie leagues will be $90. All players will receive a team jersey.
